• State financing of parties under discussion again
  • 03.04.2009
In the morning vote the House rejected the bill submitted  by the opposition leftist Democratic Left Alliance with 217 votes to 209. Following a heated debate on Thursday the Parliament also rejected a rival draft by the ruling Civic Platform. The Platform’s junior coalition partner – the Polish Peasant Party – and the opposition Law and Justice voted against the first reading of the draft. Before the vote, Prime Minister Donald Tusk  told the House that it is immoral to finance political parties with the taxpayer’s money at the time of crisis. Parliamentary Speaker Bronislaw Komorowski said that the draft will be submitted to the House again on the initiative of the Civic Platform, the Polish Peasant Party and the Democratic Left Alliance.
