• Politicians pay tribute to Helena Modrzejewska

The Polish Parliament has commemorated the death anniversary of the famed Polish actress, Helena Modrzejewska, with a resolution paying tribute to the artist for promoting Polish culture in the United States.

A star of two continents, Helena Modrzejewska was born in 1840. She specialized in Shakespearean roles, and played a total of 260 roles. She immigrated to United States in 1876, where she was known as Helena Modjeska. She died on 8 April 1909 in New Port Beach, California. After the funeral, her remains were transported to Poland, to be buried at the Rakowicki cementery in Kraków.
