• Poland to send more troops to Afghanistan

President Lech Kaczynski has said Poland would send more troops to Afghanistan. He made the announcement during a visit to Kabul where he met his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai  and Polish soldiers in command of Kabul Airport.

Mr Kaczynski said Poland increase the size of its contingent by twenty percent, especially the combat troops. Right Poland, Poland has 1600 soldiers in Afghanistan, serving as part of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force. They are in control of Ghazni province, where additional forces are needed, the Polish president said, in view of the deteriorating situation, with groups of radicals spilling from other parts of the country.

The Polish president said that Afghanistan is an extremely important place. ‘It is here that the shape of the world’s future is decided, whether it will based on peace and respect for human rights.’, he said.
President Karzai thanked Poland for the presence of Polish soldiers and their role in the fight against terrorism. He stressed Poland’s contribution to the development of all spheres of life in Afghanistan, from education to health service.
