• Poles want Good Friday a day off
  • 10.04.2009

Over a half of Poles would like Good Friday to be declared a day off, according to the recent opinion poll by GFK Polonia.

Most clergy support the idea. Good Friday is one of the most important days in the liturgical year and Poland's over 90% Catholic society is being distracted on that day by professional duties. Franciscan Father Jan Maria Szewek explains: "One of the truths of our Faith is that Christ died on the Cross for our salvation. Without His Passion and Death on the Cross, we wouldn't have been saved. For Evangelicals, Good Friday is even more important than Easter Wednesday. This day unites us, Christians, very much."

According to the "Polska" daily, an MP of the ruling Civic Platform has filed in the parliament a project of a bill which would make Good Friday a day off beginning with next year.
