A total of 35 people died and 542 were injured in road accidents over the Easter weekend.

Despite numerous appeals to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol, the police caught up to 1,960 intoxicated drivers throughout the holidays, which is over a third more than last year.

Over 10,000 officers on road patrol checked speed, blood alcohol content, child safety, and the vehicle’s condition.

As always, the roads were especially busy in the beginning of the weekend and on Sunday evening, when the homeward bound traffic began.
