• Nanghar Khel enquiry sees two cases dismissed
  • 17.04.2009

Two cases which were connected with the death of civilians in the Afghan village of Nanghar Khel have been dismissed by a military court in Poznan.

The prosecution stated that there is not enough evidence to support that one of the accused soldiers actually shot at the civilain population of the village.

The other case that was dismissed concerns a senior private, who was a member of the platoon that was sent to Nanghar Khel. He has been acquitted after witness accounts excluded him from actually entering the village itself.

The dismissal of these cases does not have an effect on the overall enquiry into the Nanghar Khel killings though, the Military Court in Warsaw has stated.

Witnesses are still being questioned on the shootings that happened on 16th August 2007 when six civilians died in the Afghan village.
