• Jazz in Silesia

The programme includes celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the Jazz department at the Katowice Music Academy. Andrzej Kalinowski , the organiser of the festival, says that the jazz department has played a very important role in shaping the music tradition in Silesia.
Poland was one of the first countries to set up such a department at the Music Academy. I think that we have to keep up with the tradition and be open to what is happening in this genre of music by showing its complexity, diversity and maturity.
The programme of the festival includes performances of some of the greatest artists of the Polish jazz scene as well as workshops for young musicians conducted by renowned composers and pedagogues. A special conference devoted to the development of syncopatic music in Poland is also planned. The Festival winds up on April 26th
