Anna Fotyga

The parliamentary commission for foreign affairs has issued a positive opinion about the candidature of Anna Fotyga, Poland's former foreign minister, to the post of Poland's ambassador at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Fotyga was the foreign affairs minister in the cabinets of Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jarosław Kaczyński, and later head of the Presidential Chancellery of Lech Kaczyński.

During the hearing before the parliamentary foreign affairs commission, preceding the vote on her candidature, Anna Fotyga explained why New York was the right place for her. 'Beginning in my childhood years, I have been interested in all the spheres that the UN deals with. It's not a secret that it was the president who recommended me to the post. It's the first time after 1989 that the former foreign minister decides to take such a post and it's not an easy decision,' Fotyga said.

Anna Fotyga was bombarded with questions, many attacking her policy and style of management, but when it came to the vote, most members of the commission supported the candidature.
