President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil is on a 4-day visit to Poland. 

Today, she meets with Polish president Lech Kaczynski, prime minister Donald Tusk and house speaker Bronisław Komorowski, to discuss international security, relations with Afghanistan and Pakistan, among others, as well as Polish-Indian commercial relations.

Polish President Lech Kaczyński told journalists after the meeting of the two heads of state that they had spoken of problems in the region where India lies, the situation in connection with Afghanistan, Pakistan and China; also the position of Poland vis a vis some important European problems related to the EU and NATO, such as the Lisbon Treaty and expansion.

President Patil is also to participate in a Polish-Indian Economic Forum.

India is one of the most important South Asian partners for Poland. Last year, bilateral trade reached 1.3 billion dollars. It’s hoped that the Presidential visit will contribute to the trade relations between the two countries.

On Thursday, the first day of her visit, President Patil toured Warsaw and the Museum of the Warsaw Rising. Tomorrow, she is to visit Krakow, the Wieliczka salt mine and the museum at the WW2 Nazi German death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
