  • 24.04.2009

Moscow has welcomed the initiative to establish a NATO command centre in Poland, which would inform Russia of potential airborne threats, announced Russia’s Ambassador to NATO, Dmitri Rogozin, as quoted today by Russian radio.

Dmitri Rogozin said that the initiative proved that there are sound, pragmatic forces within the Alliance, which understood that only cooperation with Russia would help guarantee security in the Euroatlantic zone.

Ambassador Rogozin said a similar centre would be formed on Russian territory, to reciprocate with information.

The plans to establish a NATO centre in Poland were announced on Thursday by Defence Minister Bogdan Klich. It would collect data from the Eastern border of the Alliance, brought in from radar stations in Norway, Poland and Turkey.
