The Foreign Ministry in Warsaw has issued a warning to all Poles travelling to or returning from Mexico, the United States and Canada to exercise caution with regard to the epidemic of swine flu registered there.

The statement advises postponing trips to those countries, if possible, in order to minimize the risk of infection.

The Polish Foreign Ministry reminds in the communiqué that umpteen centers of swine flu infection have been discovered in 7 districts of Mexico since February. Over 13 hundred people have contracted the disease of whom 81 are suspected to have died as a result, though officially 20 deaths have been confirmed.

Meanwhile, authorities of Warsaw’s Chopin International Airport have intensified monitoring passengers arriving on flights from North America in connection with cases of swine flu reported by sanitary services, especially in Mexico. Spokesman Jakub Mielniczuk said the airport premises are not directly endangered by the virus, but preventive measures have been introduced to scan groups of incoming passengers from across the Atlantic: “Similar symptoms may appear with several other infections. That is why observation and checking the course of edevelopments with respect to individual passengers is of primary importance.”
