Poland’s head of diplomacy Radoslaw Sikorski has congratulated Andzelika Borys on her re-election as chairwoman of the Association of Poles in Belarus.
Meeting with the guest at his private residence in Chobielin, Sikorski also expressed satisfaction with the participation of Belarus in the EU’s Eastern Partnership project. The Foreign Minister stressed that such actions by Poland’s eastern neighbor are proof of the ability to upgrade standards of respecting human rights in Belarus. He added that the issue of not recognizing the Polish minority organization headed by Andzelika Borys by authorities in Minsk have become the subject of talks at Union level: “During last week’s visit to Minsk the Czech Foreign Minister, representing the EU presidency, spoke not only about the observance of human rights in general, but specifically raised the problem of the Association of Poles in Belarus.”
Andzelika Borys, on her part, voiced hope that the Association of Poles in Belarus will ultimately gain legal recognition of relevant government authorities in her country.
Also, during her visit to Poland Mrs. Borys is to open a special exhibition devoted to the Polish minority in Belarus at the ‘Gallery on the Brda’, in the northern city of Bydgoszcz.
