A freighter with grain cargo has been seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia with a Polish captain on board.

The information has been released by the dziennik.pl news service. According to its sources, the MV ‘Patriot’ sailing under a Maltese flag has a crew of 17 comprised of 15 Filipinos and 1 Ukrainian under the command of a Pole. They are said to be in good condition.

The Foreign Ministry in Warsaw is checking the incident with the German owner of the ship and has not yet officially confirmed information about the Polish captain’s presence.
