Janusz Marynowski, the director of the Sinfonia Varsovia, points it is a symbolic date, though very important for the ensemble which for 25 years had no permanent home in Warsaw. During this time however, the musicians played in almost all corners of the world, underlines Marynowski .
Last Friday , Warsaw authorities have finally signed a document which grants Sinfonia Varsovia a permanent seat. The old complex of buildings will also house the European Music Center.
The repertory of the Sinfonia Varsovia embraces works from the 18th century to modern compositions. The orchestra has made world wide premiere performances of works by renowned composers among them Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutoslawski, Marta Ptaszynska or John Adams and plauyed under the world’s greatest conductors including Claudio Abbado, Yehudi Menuhin, Marc Minkowski, Mścisław Rostropowicz, or Bruno Weil.
