There have been no cases of swine flu registered in Poland – informed the country’s deputy health minister Adam Fronczak. At the same time he stressed that all the necessary steps are taken connected with the raising of the threat level from swine flu one level to phase 5 by the World Health Organization.

The announcement follows the warning by the WHO of the imminent world-wide pandemic of the AH1N1 flu strain. The news was confirmed by Poland’s Chief Sanitary Inspector Andrzej Wojtyła who added that two people are being monitored. "Two people are being monitored and we should receive the results of their laboratory tests within the next few hours. It seems and it has been confirmed by Andrzej Horban, the national consultant for infectious diseases that the result will be rather negative meaning there has been no confirmed case of swine flu in Poland yet" he said.

Wojtyła also added that Poland has currently a sufficient number of flu vaccines and protective facemasks. (di)
