  • 03.05.2009

Jan Garbarek, the prominent Norwegian saxophonist and composer, begins a Polish tour with a concert in Kraków.

His itinerary includes also Częstochowa,  Lublin, Warsaw and Wrocław. The programme of the concerts, during which Garbarek will appear with the British vocal quartet  the Hilliard Ensemble, comprises ancient Greek and medieval songs featured on the CDs Officium and Mnemosyne.

Born in 1947 in Mysen, Norway, Garbarek gained worldwide recognition in the 1970s as a member of the Keith Jarrett Quartet. His father was a Polish POW who settled in Norway after the war, but despite his Polish roots, he has only a few words of Polish. He has made recordings with the Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko.
