Experts say swine flu got milder in Europe and the U.S.

There is no swine flu in Poland. The twenty-four suspected cases reported so far have been proven to be other kinds of less serious infections. This is according to the sanitary services latest press release.

Another woman coming back from Mexico with symptoms of flu was taken to hospital this morning for observation, after Warsaw airport staff notified proper services. Test results verifying the case are expected within hours.

Due to the threat of epidemic, health ministry decided to check the state of preparations in hospitals. Sanitary services officials are checking if hospitals really provide the declared number of beds at infectious disease wards, if they have the necessary equipment and medicine and if they are able to safely isolate patients.

Jan Bodnar of the General Sanitary Inspectorate says the cases of swine flu detected in the US and Europe seem to be less dangerous than the Mexican cases: 'This flu is surprisingly mild. All but one cases in the US and Europe are relatively mild infections, even milder than the usual seasonal flu. This is very good news, it gives us hope that even if the disease reaches Poland, there will be no victims,' he said.

According to this expert, the difference in death toll between Mexican and non-Mexican cases of swine flu may be the result of different levels of health care in the regions.
