The screening of a movie by Magdalena Piekorz, entitled Drowsiness, held at the renowned Museum of Modern Art has opened the fifth New York Polish Film Festival.

Organised by the founder of the festival Hanna Hartowicz, and Filmart Productions, the event gives city residents and the local Polish community to see the most recent productions of the Polish film industry. The line-up includes feature films, shorts and documentaries.

One of the highlights of the event is the showing of Jerzy Skolimowski’s Four Nights with Anne and a chance to meet the director in person. Other artists attending the festival include filmmakers Magdalena Łazarkiewicz, Kasia Adamik, actress Małgorzata Kożuchowska, and documentary author Tomek Magierski.

The Beyond Borders award, named in honour of a world-famous film director, the late Krzysztof Kieślowski, will be granted for best feature film and best short film. The festival will run until 10 May.
