• Great anniversary marred by controversies

The Premier said that the artistic part of the celebrations will be held in Gdansk, however the official political commemorations are to take place in Krakow.
The celebrations of the 20th  anniversary of the fall of communism had been initially planned to be held in Gdansk, the cradle of Solidarity and the city where the transformations began. Following the recent blockades staged by the ‘Sierpien 80’ trade union of  constituency offices of the ruling Civic Platform in several cities in Poland, and threats of strikes Donald Tusk decided to transfer the celebrations to Krakow.
The premier said he does not wish for such important celebrations to be threatened with demonstrations, thus rejecting the offer of the Solidarity trade Union to hold the whole event in Gdansk.
