Nearly all of this year’s fledgling white-tailed eagles have been killed in the Roztocze National Park, south-east Poland.

Foresters have so far discovered ten dead birds, some with their talons cut off. The eagles, which are a protected species in Poland, probably have been accidentally poisoned, says the park’s Przemysław Satchyra, as they eat the treated meat left out by local farmers for foxes, which have become very numerous.

There are four pairs of white-tailed eagles living in the park. Foresters are also concerned over other birds of prey in the reserve.
