Twenty one men have been detained by police in connection with rioting at the Polish Cup final last Tuesday between Lech Poznan and Legia Warszawa.

Police spokesman Mariusz Sokolowski informed this morning that the detainees come from both Warsaw and Poznan.

He added that all those detained were allegedly involved in brawls at the Bydgoszcz stadium during and after the final which Legia won 5 - 4 on penalties.

Officials from the European governing body UEFA were at the match ahead of the Euro 2012 football championships which will be co-hosted next year by Poland and Ukraine.

Legia Warsawa had to play a league match behind closed doors last Friday as punishment for some of their fans rioting.

Police say they are continuing to work on identifying more hooligans involved in the disturbances at the stadium in Bydgoszcz. (pg)
