French company Canal Plus has bought the rights to the transmissions of the three next Ekstraklasa football league seasons, according to Poland’s first tier football league.

“On Wednesday, the Ekstraklasa clubs unanimously accepted the offer of Canal Plus Digital, granting the license for the television rights of live matches of the 2011/2012, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons,” the organisation revealed on its official website.

“The accepted agreement has established the granting of sub-licences to Polsat Digital and the Eurosport channel,” the statement continued.

This arrangement slightly alters the previous status quo, in which Orange Sport was granted a sub-licence with Canal Plus.

Ekstraklasa, Poland's premier league, comprises of sixteen clubs. Three matches are screened weekly, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, commanding huge viewing figures across the country. (nh)
